This recording is a unique combination of skill and tradition which culminates in a wide ranging and unusual music, which in turn shows the versatility and capability of the musicians involved. The Donagher’s consist of Gerard ( Father) Aileen and Kenny, of Easkey, Co Sligo, who have been prominent in musical circles throughout the West of Ireland. Gerard’s traditional technique, derived from his father John Donagher, sets the tone and rythmn of the traditional music. Kenny follows with his development of contemporary and traditional accordion playing and Aileen through her cosmopolitan knowledge of music delivers excellent renderings of “ The Frieze Britches” and the “Tennessee Waltz” to the listener. Ivan Gibson, the guitarist, enhanced each by his excellence in approach to his instrument. Jim Higgins, who provides the discursive rhythymical and harmonic approach to the music also achieves his goal as accompanist on the recording. Songs by Gerard and Aileen, arranged in a moood of the times, complete the employment of expertise in the production of a compellingly human sound. Dedicated to Bridie Donagher Acknowledgements.
