Description

‘The Boys of the Lough’, ‘The Tarbolton’, ‘The Longford Collector’, ‘Tell Her I Am’: All are ‘big tunes’ from the Sligo and North Connacht traditional music repertoire and are well known by anyone with an interest in Irish Traditional Music.

The North Connacht regional style has been to the forefront of Irish music since the 1920s and ’30s, when the likes of fiddle players Michael Coleman, James Morrison, Paddy Killoran and flute player John McKenna from neighbouring County Leitrim made numerous classic recording in New York.

By delving a little deeper into that traditional style, we can draw on many more great tunes that are associated and connected with the area.  The source of this collection is derived primarily from older generations of musicians, including some recordings from the Michael Coleman Archive.
