Michael Coleman is one of the most influential Traditional Irish Musician of all time. He was born to humble beginnings in the small town land of Mountirwin in Killavil, Co. Sligo. In this post we are going to talk about the wonderful compliation of his music released in 1991 by gael linn and compiled by Harry Bradshaw. This CD came complete with a comprehsive booklet describing the music and the man that was Michael Coleman.

The reigning Fiddler of Dooney, Tara Breen from Co.Clare was but one of a star studded group of Traditional Irish musicians who put on a truly outstanding concert in Ceoláras Coleman, Gurteen, on September 22nd last.

Accompanied by her father, Martin Breen, Tara thrilled the audience with her fine spirited playing, displaying all the skills of a master fiddle player with a lovely selection of tunes. Gracious hostess for the evening was Anne Marie McGowan, an excellent fiddle player, who recited lovely poetry - some about her beloved Monastraden where her family came from. Two young musicians with family roots in the wider Gurteen area, Sean and Gearoid Keane, gave a lovely entertaining performance with concertina and fiddle, and step dancing too.

A night to watch out for at Ceolaras Coleman, Gurteen is Friday 28th September when the Pipers club will present an illustrated concert. The performance will include an illustrated discussion with piping expert Sean Donnelly and songs from Danu’s Muireann Nic Amhlaidh. (more…)
