Coleman Traditional Festival 2007

The Schedule for the Coleman Traditional festival 2007 has been confirmed. The festival runs from the 31st of August to the 2nd of September and will take place in Gurteen, Co Sligo, Ireland.

The line up is a star studded one, indeed. It features Peter Horan, Gerry Harrington, Mulcahy family,Cora & Breda Smyth and a host of local musicians.In traditional music circles, these musicians are held in the highest esteem. There will also be a Junior feis, Céilí and the Coleman International Fiddle competition.

The Festival opens on August 31st with the local musical legend Peter Horan and his fellow fiddle player, Gerry Harrington. This magical duo has a wonderful blend of old traditional tunes and have two CD’s to their credit, their latest one launched just a few weeks ago.

The next musical family are making their first trip to Coleman Country to play at the Festival on Saturday night September 1st. The Mulcahy family come from County Limerick and Mick Mulcahy and his daughter Louise and Michelle have a terrific traditional repertoire and play a variety of instruments. They were featured on the TG4 Gradam Awards Concert and one of the girls is a worthy Gradam award recipient.

To close proceedings on Sunday night September 2nd The Smyth Sisters Cora and Breda travel from nearby Mayo to give another rousing traditional music presentation. The musical heritage of these fair lasses needs no introductions. They have toured nationally and internationally and their attendance at the closing night of the Coleman Festival will be an occasion not to be missed.
The Coleman International fiddle Competition also takes place at the Festival on Sunday September 2nd. This is now a major competition in traditional music circles and is preceded by the Junior Coleman Fiddle competition which caters for Fiddle players up to 18 years and always attracts a large number of competitions and is of a very high standard.

The Carousel Ceili Band will provide the music for the festival Ceili in Teach Murray on Sunday night Sept 2nd at 9pm. The Junior Feis for all musical instruments is at 12 noon on Saturday 1st entries taken from 11:30, ages 8 to 15 years trophies for winners.

10.00 p.m. Céilí - Carousel Céilí Band in Teach Murray, Gurteen
