3 Sessions Weekly

This Wednesday the Coleman Music Centre, here in Gurteen, Co.Sligo started its busiest summer concert season yet. The Centre will host 3 concerts weekly throughout the months of July and August. The summer season will culminate with the Coleman Traditional Festival on the first weekend in September.

Wednesday Night session

‘Ceoltoiri Coleman’ provide the music on the Wednesday night featuring

  • Declan Folan - Fiddle,
  • Michael Hurley - Fiddle, flute,
  • Sorcha Rooney - Harp,
  • Nora O’Connor - Vocals,
  • Niamh, McGettrick - step dancer,
  • Tara Murray- step dancer,
  • Maria Gilmartin - step dancer,
  • Junior Davey - Compere Bodhrán.

The Wednesday night show has been very popular in recent years. The Group are very experienced and respected Traditional Irish Musicians in the South Sligo Area.

The Thursday night features Sligo musicians who are part of the Meitheal Group. This is a group of young musicians formed by the Meitheal committee, drawn from the five counties, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Leitrim & Fermanagh. They are all young, highly accomplished musicians and dancers and play a wide variety of instruments.

This group is being trained to represent the Meitheal area under the guidance of Michael Rooney, composer and harpist.

The Thursday night show is a new addition to our summer line up this year. This is the groups debut concert series and will no doubt be a hugely successful show.

Saturday night sees the return of:

  • Peter Mooney,
  • Alan Sweeney,
  • Daithi Gormley,
  • Sean Kilfeather

with some step dancers and the ‘Fear an Tí’ Seamas McGettrick. The Saturday session encourages audience participation. This has proved very popular in previous shows. No one will be forced to join in but if you want to play a tune, sing a song, or do a dance, the saturday session if the place for you.

The Concerts all take place in the beautiful surroundings of the newly refurbished Coleman Music Centre. Tea and coffee are served with compliments in the short interval and the show concludes about 11 o’clock.
